Hope Cooperative Receives Homeless Justice Award 2015

Last night was a wonderful community celebration at the Sacramento Housing Alliance annual awards dinner and fundraiser at The Firehouse.  Hope Cooperative (formerly TLCS) Executive Director Michael Lazar accepted the award on behalf of Hope Cooperative. It was particularly fitting that this group honored Mike as he approaches his retirement at the end of this year.

"I’d like to thank the Sacramento Housing Alliance for this award, and it is a particular honor to be on the same program as Darrell Steinberg, who pioneered stable funding for the work we do with the hardest to serve homeless population.I also want to thank the great folks at Jamboree Housing who nominated us for this award.  We partner with their staff to provide support services to the residents of the Hotel Berry.  Robert Johnston and Michael Callahan are great examples of Hope Cooperative’s dedication to serving our clients with dignity and respect.  They are not able to be here tonight to join me because of family obligations, but I want to acknowledge and honor their hard work. For more than 30 years we have provided permanent supportive housing and support services for those with severe and persistent mental illness.  A diagnosis should not be a destiny.  Our goal and our mission is to provide the resources and supports necessary to help transform lives by promoting successful community living for people with psychiatric disabilities.I proudly accept this award on behalf of our more than 100 employees and the thousands of individuals whose lives we have touched and enriched."

Other honorees included Patrick and Bobbin Mulvaney, Mutual Housing and Habitat for Humanity.
